    1. A fun little read for lovers of the film. The author adds a bit here and there, alters things in other places. Isabeau is decidedly more helpless and waifish here than she is on screen. Navarre more gruff. Phillipe is Phillipe. The actors do actually give much better performances of these characters and lines than they are depicted in this novelization. How does this work I wonder? Does the author get a script and just work from there? Do they just write from watching the film? If so, Vinge inte [...]

    3. Bought this because I loved the movie as a teenager. Surprisingly, there is not much more depth to the book - there is little additional detail about how the characters are feeling; the dialogue and script are an almost word perfect match; and virtually the entire book was included in the movie. I enjoyed this book because of it's association with the movie. But without that, it falls into the category of a light romance that dabbles at being a fantasy novel in a historical setting. This one goe [...]

    4. It's been awhile since I read this book but I do recall enjoying it as much as I loved the movie. There were extra scenes that went into more detail of scenes from the movie. The scene where Mouse is telling Navarre about what Isabeau spoke the night after the wolf hunt is an example. Which is one of my favorite scenes from the movie. "Did you know that hawks and wolves mate for life? The bishop didn't even leave us that. Not even that."I think that is one of the most heart-wrenching scenes in t [...]

    5. Since I saw the film a long time ago, I felt in love with the story. The story of the book is wonderful but it could be more detailed. It's exactly the same as the film.

    8. Can't say I'm too fond of the graphics for this novelization of Richard Donner's 1985 cult classic film "Ladyhawke." Check out some of the movie posters and you'll see these soaring fantasy paintings; the cover of this one just has Matthew Broderick looking a little downcast while a two-handed broadsword quivers in a tree next to his head.Still, the book hews pretty close to the film. You may prefer this if you want the narrative without the Alan Parsons Project. Alternatively, if you miss the a [...]

    10. Well, I finished my second book of the week. "Ladyhawke", by Joan D. Vinge. Yeah, it's the novelization of that classic 80s adventure movie about a man and woman who are cursed by an evil bishop. He's a wolf by night. She's a hawk by day, so they can never be together as man and woman. Awesome movie. You know how when there's a book based on a movie, or vice versa, and people always say "The book was better!"? Well, this one wasn't. I didn't care for it much. I went to a movie once, and I sat nex [...]

    11. Can't say I read it, but just discovered that Joan D. Vinge wrote this book, which is one of my favourite films! Loved all the actors. Matthew Broderick was adorable then. And Michelle Pheiffer, so beautiful. Just adored it and have watched it many, many times!

    14. Brimming with adventure, humor and passion, this novel (like the movie it inspired) has reached its 30th-year mark with little sign of wear. It is an absorbing read for either sex, what with its easy shifts from comedy to action to romance and maintains a contemporary feel in spite of its medieval settings. The central plot retains its fantastic mystery until it’s solved by the character of Imperius, a monk who manages to project the slightly vulgar sensibilities of a Chaucerian creation and t [...]

    15. *rolls around* FINALLY! After my painfully slooooow reading, I have finished. (Seriously, molasses in a snow storm is faster than me.)This was presented to my as a Christmas gift from a dearly loved friend.Just wow! It's added so much more to the film I have loved since childhood. More insight to the surrounds of the characters - more depth and breath. So many times I sat reading, asking aloud to no one, "Why wasn't that in the film?!" Or laughing a kind of laughter that is frowned upon.I could [...]

    16. The characters are not very deeply written, as in most movie tie-ins. But LadyHawke is interesting and a decent read. The story mostly revolves around Phillipe and his discovery of curse put upon Navarre and Isabeau, and his relationship with both parties. Personally, I thought the book was an okay read, but I would have liked to have seen the author delve more into the personalities and history of the characters. I would also like to know where the Bishop got his powers. So, if you saw the movi [...]

    17. I had seen the movie many times and always wanted to read the book. I love this magical, surreal story. It's when I started loving black wolves! When I read the book, I knew the dialogue was nearly word-for-word from the movie. The book was copyright protected in 1985 by Warner Brothers. I wonder if a book had been written that was made into the movie before it was published?I was hoping for more background. There were some small differences, but the story was basically unchanged. I still loved [...]

    18. I've always loved this story of a woman who is a hawk by day and a man that becomes a wolf by night due to a spell someone puts on their relationship. Somehow you can interpret it as the truth of any marriage relationship! We can love each other to death and really yearn for each other. But, by night, when you want to reach out to each other, you can't because he's growling so much. And during the day, she flies off after the things that need doing. Fortunately for this fairy tale book, all ends [...]

    19. Novelization from a screenplay. I liked the movie and was hoping for more insight to characters and/or deleted scense, which some movie novelizations have. I found the insights from the character especially Phillipe in the book were totally different from what I got from the movie. It was still an enjoyable "light" reading but I still would rather spend the time watching the movie instead of reading the novelization.

    20. I really loved the movie Ladyhawke (yes, even the soundtrack) and so when I found the novelization in the used bookstore, I snatched it up. It goes nicely next to my novelizations of Willow and Dragonslayer. Although the plot is still top-notch, the writing of the book wasn't as great as I'd hoped. I realize the author wrote the novel from the movie script, and it was very apparent. Not to say that the book was bad, just it didn't have the depth of a typical novel.

    21. If I rated this on how much I enjoyed it, it would get 5 stars. I remember exactly where I bought it, the bookstore at the Mall in Greenville, SC. At first I was not even aware it was a novelization of a movie. I liked it a lot.Not the best book ever, for sure, but it gets three stars for the happy memories!

    22. I've always loved the movie and know I'm in love with the book. This is one of the most beautiful love stories I've ever heard of and even knowing the ending, I cried a river over it.~*~Em português aqui.

    23. This was a favorite book when I was a teen. I then watched the movie multiple times & loved it, too. I look forward to re-reading this some day when the kids are older and seeing if they enjoy it as much as I did.

    24. I loved this book. I had seen the movie many many times before I read the book which is actually based on the screen play. Suggest you seek out the movie and then read the book. Tremendously funny and touching story.

    25. The book is much like the movie (movie is one of my all time favorites)but with more details revealed. A very good read. I give it four stars because the story is so unique and I was able to finish it, which these days is saying alot.
